The pavilion can accommodate up to 20 guests and includes tables and chairs, toilet facilities, and a small kitchen area. It is located next to the children’s play area, with swings and slides nearby, making it an ideal choice for younger children’s celebrations.
Hire charges: £5.00 per hour or £30.00 per day.

Dedicated volunteers ensure Green Flag continues to fly at Ty’r Winch Playing Field
The hard work of dedicated volunteers has ensured that the prestigious Green Flag Community Award continues to fly at Ty’r Winch Playing Field, as Keep Wales Tidy announces the winners of the 2026 Green Flag Awards.
A record 330 parks and green spaces across Wales have reached the high standards required to fly the coveted Green Flag for 2026. This includes 93 sites which achieved full Green Flag Award status and 237 who received a Green Flag Community Award. Fourteen of these sites also achieved the supplementary Green Heritage Site Accreditation, supported by Cadw, for demonstrating a commitment to preserving and promoting their unique history.
The Green Flag Community Award flag was awarded to Old St. Mellons Community Council in recognition of its environmental efforts, excellent visitor facilities, and community involvement.
Green Flag Community Awards celebrate high-quality, volunteer-run spaces such as community gardens and local nature reserves.
For the third year running, Wales retains the honour of holding more Green Flag Community Awards than any other country delivering the scheme, with 237 Community Awards, up 14 from 223 last year.
The Green Flag Award scheme was founded 30 years ago and recognises well-managed parks and green spaces in more than 20 countries around the world.
In Wales, the awards scheme is run by Keep Wales Tidy. Owen Derbyshire, Keep Wales Tidy Chief Executive said:
“Wales is truly setting the standard when it comes to outstanding green spaces, with 330 places recognised in this year’s Green Flag Awards. Completed at Ty'r Winch Playing Field
Old St Mellons Community Council is pleased to announce that the new pavilion at Ty’r Winch Playing Field is now in place.
The pavilion has been delivered by Ashdown Construction Group Ltd and marks the completion of a long-standing community project. Old St Mellons Community Council has worked hard over a considerable period to bring this facility forward and, although the project has been challenging at times, Councillors are delighted to see it completed for the benefit of the local community.
The new pavilion will be available to hire for children’s parties and other suitable community use, providing a welcome facility at Ty’r Winch Playing Field.
The project has been made possible through the use of Section 106 monies, helping to deliver an important improvement for residents and visitors to the playing field.
Old St Mellons Community Council would like to thank Ashdown Construction Group Ltd, Project Manager Mr Steve Knapton, all contractors involved and everyone who has worked hard to help bring this project to a successful conclusion.
Old St Mellons Community Council warmly invites residents and members of the community to attend an open day at the new pavilion on Saturday 20th June at 3pm. We look forward to welcoming everyone to see the completed facility and celebrate this important addition to Ty’r Winch Playing Field.
Proposals for a new Aldi food store at Plot A, Wern Fawr Lane, St Mellons, Cardiff, CF3 5E
It is our intention to submit a full planning application to Cardiff Council for these proposals in due course. However, before doing so, as required by the legislation, the draft planning application has been placed on deposit for a period of 28 days from Monday 16th March to Monday 13th April, as referenced in the enclosed notice.
Robert Hitchins Limited, regional property developers and owners of Eastern Business Park, in partnership with Aldi, the award-winning discount food retailer, are bringing forward proposals to open a new high-quality food store on land at Plot A, Wern Fawr Lane, St Mellons. The proposals will bring new purpose to surplus parking space, providing greater convenience for the community. With easy access on foot and via three bus routes, the store would cut unnecessary car trips, contributing to lower carbon emissions and helping to improve the local environment.
The proposed Aldi food store would improve the local supermarket offering, with only Tesco currently serving the St Mellons community. The proposals would mark a significant investment in the local economy, creating up to 40 new jobs, paid at an industry-leading rate, as well as further employment opportunities during construction and through Aldi’s UK supply chain.
Robert Hitchins and Aldi value the input of the local community and will ensure, where appropriate, that local perspectives are considered in shaping the proposals. As part of our statutory pre-application consultation, a virtual public exhibition will be held to present our draft proposals between Monday 16th March and Monday 13th April.

We will also be holding a public consultation event on Thursday 26th March 2026 at Old St Mellons Village Hall, Newport Rd, St. Mellons, Cardiff CF3 5UN.
